Getting back on that bike - again!

Hi Guys

Well as the title says (thanks to Rob for the inspiration, I nicked it from your post!)

I am getting back on that bike, the old TT bike! Although to be fair I have never been off the TT bike, I found TT training back in Dec 2010 and have used the programs ever since, they are the best.

I have taken part in and won a TT contests before so I am not eligible to win this time around, but it never was about the winning, it's because taking part in a TT contest simply gets resultls.

It gives me the focus and commitment I need to succeed and the support you get is fantastic.

I have regained a bit of the weight I lost since winning Contest number 11, but I have always kept up my TT training so this is about getting my nutrition back on track and I know the contest forum will help me do this.

I seem to yo you with around 8lbs but am sure it would be more if I did not continue with the TT programs.

So here I am back again, now living in the UK after 6 years in NZ, it has been a bit tough since returning with no jobs and finding schools for the children etc. I am still not working which is hard being home all the day on my own, but I am the only one that take control of my eating and I must do that now.

I did start contest number 14 but fell by the way side, but not this time, I am in it for the long haul and I will post my goas and measurements later today.

good luck to everyone and I look forward to sharing the TT transformation with eveyrone, great to see some familiar faces as I know the fantastic support and knowledge they offer, but also looking forward to helping in any way I can.

Cheers for now Katie :)

ps goals, measurement and stragegy to follow!

Hey Katie, please keep us posted on your progress. End 2012 with a bang!

Update so far

Hi guys

Thanks for the messages of support I need them!!

I had a really good first week but 2nd week all went down hill and any losses I made in the first week, were regained in the 2nd week. But..... I will not give up, I am here to do this and do this I will:)

I looked back through my previous contest and thought about what got me through and how I had success and I reminded myself what I need to do!

So, I need to post my starting stats, set my contest goals, and set out how I am going to do this.

Starting Stats:

9st 2lb
128.8 lb
58kg

Waist 30"
Chest 37"
Hips 37"

R thigh 22.5 "
L thigh 23.5"
Belly - measurement just below belly button - 34.5"

Contest Goals:

lose 10lbs
Maintain this when I finish contest

How I am going to do it:

1. Follow TT programs - started with Metabolic Finishers
2. Log food every day on my fitness pal
3. Set daily goals
4. Avoid processed foods
5. Base diet on fruit/veg/nuts/lean meat
6. Add in 1 -2 fasts a week if required
7. check into TT forum at least 3 times a week more if possible

To do this all this I also need to be organised and plan ahead by shopping in advance and preparing a menu so I know what I am going to eat each day.

Plan my workouts into my week.

I am currently unemployed so am home all day and husband is working away so am struggling some days with the nutrition as I am home alone all week. I am job hunting each day and spend a lot of time on the internet applying for jobs, but have also offered to help out at my son's school as I do need to get out of the house!

I am not currently a member of the gym as finances will not allow it, so am working out at home, I have a weight bench, and a small set of weights and have set up a mini gym in the conservatory.

I am committed to working out and even through the tough times of being unemployed, stress of moving back to the UK etc, I have maintained my workouts so I know I can do this. My hardest problem is nutrition - but it always has been!!

I will also try to post my workouts and nutrition as I know that accountability is important and of course the advise and help from the other TTer's

Monday - workout

Workout A - Metabolic Finishers:

Nutrition:

2 scrambled eggs, tomatoes, 2 slices ham, 1 slice of bread

2 apples

strawberries, grapes,

15 cashew nuts

Stir fry veg, peppers, tomatoes, spring onion, basmati rice, 1 slice ham,

Green tea and water throughout day

It's Tuesday today and I am doing a fast until 6pm this evening, it's recovery day today and I need it!

I have been working out with Metabolic Finishers, which has Burpees in workout A but I have been substituting them with Total Body Extensions as burpees often set my back pain off.

Well I was feeling strong today so thought I would give the burpees a go, I managed them fine but today my back is a bit niggly. So maybe I do need to go back to the TBX instead, or not do as many burpees as they are definitly tougher!

Ok that's me for today, I will drop by some of you posts.

Keep up the great work

Cheers for now Katie:)

The October 2011 Metabolic Finishers is great... love that one.

Keep up the good work!

Hey Katie,

On being at home and tempted by food, I recommend a replacement. Learn something new like drawing, or even an inexpensive instrument like the recorder. I draw or practice the piano specifically to distract myself from boredom eating. Other distractions like cleaning and organizing can work, but I think it's better to find an element of fun. Sometimes we have to look beyond ordinary solutions.

Haiku? Yo Yo? Needlepoint? Welding?

Hello to a fellow UK-er!

Good luck with the job hunt- it's tough out there.

All the best with reaching your goals! :)

Thanks Mike, it's def one of my favourites I am loving it.

I have taken a look at Thermogenic and will do that next but need a substitue for chin ups and also wanted to check I could substitute TB ext for burpees, as they just seem to niggle my back and set of sciatica, but if there is anything else you can recommend I will give it a try.

I will also post over on training section.

Cheers for now Katie:)

Full of fab ideas and wisdom as usual Catherine! Thanks for this.

I have actually bought myself a book called Moody to Mellow - it deals with stress and helps you get your life organised so should keep me busy!!

Cheers Katei:)

today update

Hi Guys

No training today, recovery day, but did a fast until 7.30pm food for tonights:

spinach, carrots, lettuce, cabbage, tomato, cottage cheese, 2 ham slices

1 shortbread biscuit
1 lemon mouse yoghurt thingy!

the last 2 items were not planned but were in sight and tickled my taste buds....

mental note to hide things away!

tomorrow I have workout C of metabolic finishers and will be eating well.

Have had a bit of a rethink about my goal of 10lb weight loss and I think I should not actually put a number on my goal loss. I have made this mistake before and get hung up on numbers, to be honest my clothes are my best guide and I know when I feel good in them so that's my new goal.

Feel good in my clothes!

Hope everyone going OK

Cheers for now Katie:)

Hi Katie,

On the power breakfast subject, I've updated my usual menu a bit. Now I saute' my vegetables in a cast iron skillet with a bit of organic coconut oil or Kerrygold butter. I'm loving chard, mushrooms, onion, home grown tomatoes and peppers these days. I season with organic turmeric, ginger, curry powder, and iodized sea salt (from Italy- not Morton's which has fillers that keep it from clumping) . I suggest you make extra to serve your loved ones and to eat with lunch.

No matter what eating plan you follow, you simply can't go wrong with fresh vegetables at every meal. Once we get to a "normal" BMI there isn't that much wiggle room in the diet anymore so nutrient density is crucial. I believe that most of the hunger I feel is a genuine request from my body for nutrition. As long as I don't scramble those signals with hyper-palatable foods I can eat to fullness/satiety and still release fat at a moderate calorie deficit.

It really does work!

Thanks Catherine, I have a fridge full of fresh veges, ready for this week. I have been trying to fill up on vegs/fruit, but not managed to kick the snacking completely, but I have had an wine free weekend!

Cheers Concetta, I saw the post over on your thread, but thanks for posting it over here as I might have missed it.

I am also going to sub burpees for TBE as well as they are better for my back.

Cheers :)

Update

Hi Guys

Well first week of really getting into the contest has been good, I did start 2 weeks ago but it was a bit of a start, then stop, so last week was my start again!

I am def feeling better, not sure there is much weight loss but clothes feel a bit better so I think I will go with that as an indicator.

Nutrition on the whole has been good, but I have found I have snacked on a few things today that were processed and I should not have been eating, so goals for this week:

1. cut out the mini packs of biscuits (hubby is bringing them home from the hotel!)

2. Increase vegetables intake and variety

3. drink more water

4. keep a check on sweet tooth...!!

I have planned a menu for the week for both the boys and myself, hubby is working away so I can't plan for him!

Boys will not eat some of the stuff I eat, but they are also increasing their vegetable and fruit intake.

OK that's it for now

Keep up the good work everyone

Cheers for now Katie:)

Good to see you back again, Katie! Good luck in making progress towards those goals - get a good plan and stick with it and you're set. You've been there, done that, so we all know you can do it again.

Sounds like you have a great plan Katie - good luck to you! I'll be rooting for you.

Particularly impressive given all you have going on right now with the move back to the UK etc...

Thanks as well for the message of support on my thread.

Hi Katie, sounds like you're doing really well! My son is the same; he won't eat most of what i cook so we often end up having three different meals (I'm veggie).

Good luck with the contest!

Bit of a blip

Hi Guys

I have been MIA for a week , but have been doing really well up til this week. Now I have been hit with a viral infection and have not trained since Monday. Even on Monday's workout I did not even sweat? Even though I was working hard, guess I must have been coming donw with something then as it's not normal not to sweat after a TT workout!

Since Monday I have not trained and my eating has gone hay wire, not eating any proper food just tipping junk down my throat :(

As a result I feel even worse, but to be honest I cant' even taste my food, my throat is really sore and body aches every where.

I am hoping this will pass and I will be back on track next week, I think I have mentally written off this week, not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing.

Have to say I am not in a good way physically or mentally at the moment and I know my crappy eating is not helping.

Plan of action:

1. cut out eating junk - no biscuits or crisps
2. increase water intake
3. rest and get my body better
4. eat fresh fruit/veg

I actually think I am mistaking eating for needing a drink, I am sure I am thirsty and not hungry but keep hunting for tasty food in the form of junk to satisfy something.

Last weekend I felt fab and now I feel the complete opposite so i know what I need to do.

I am also getting fed up of not having a job and getting knocked backs and rejections for jobs, but I know there are lots of people in the same boat.

But I now need to Get back on track!!!

Hope everyone else is doing OK,. will check out your threads now.

Cheers for now Katie:)

RobB 01-07-2013 09:01 AM
